
DPIMS
Overview
The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is a support agency for the military that develops and provides communication and control systems. It ensures these systems work reliably across a worldwide network. Its legacy systems for Breach Reporting, System of Record Notices (SORN), and Computer Matching Agreements (CMA) were disparate and inefficient.
Problem
These systems, developed in-house, needed standardization and additional support for the growing demand to streamline operations and enhanced reporting capabilities.
The Defense Privacy, Civil Liberties, and Transparency Division (DPCLTD) needed a unified platform that could integrate these functions and improve operational efficiency.
Solution
DTSI’s created a solution that involved creating a new enterprise platform, the DPIMS (Defense Privacy Information Management System), to replace the existing systems.
This platform consolidates the three lines of business (LOBs) into a single, integrated solution, offering significant enhancements in case management and reporting functionalities. Features of the DPIMS includes:
- Enterprise-wide Integration: Unifying data across different Department of Defense (DoD) components into a single system.
- Enhanced Capabilities: Introducing a comprehensive dashboard, improved data/process standardization, and better analytical reporting.
- Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) Products: Utilizing configurable COTS products, either as a singular or multiple Service as a Software (SaaS) solutions, to meet specific LOB requirements.
- Single Sign-On Access: Ensuring all data could be accessed through a unified web portal, simplifying user interaction and data retrieval.
The DPIMS initiative significantly enhanced the operational effectiveness of DISA's privacy and security management.
By consolidating disparate systems into a single, robust platform, DISA was able to achieve better standardization, enhanced reporting capabilities, and improved security measures, thereby supporting the DoD's mission more effectively and efficiently.
